Air purifier adalah sebuah perangkat yang bisa membersihkan udara yang akan dihirup. Banyak berbagai vendor mengeluarkan perangkat ini. Alat ini bisa membersihkan udara di dalam rumah sehingga aman untuk dihirup. Kabarnya Air purifier ini penjualannya meningkat pesat seiring penyebaran Covid-19. Tapi apakah benar alat ini bisa menangkal virus berbahaya ini?
Dikutip dari Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, air purifier dapat mengurangi gejala asma untuk penderitanya. Hal ini benar karena alat ini pada umumnya dapat menangkap partikel yang lebih besar dari 0,3 mikron. Jadi alat ini dapat menangkal virus influenza yang memiliki partikel kurang lebih 4-5 mikron.
Tapi sayangnya menurut Dr.Mariea Snell, Asisten Direktur Program Doctor of Nursing Online di Maryville University, melalui GridHealth, ukuran virus Covid-19 itu hanya 0,125 mikron. Artinya perangkat ini tidak dapat menyaring virus berbahaya ini.
Jadi jika mendengar air purifier bisa menangkal Covid-19, itu salah besar. Tapi tidak berarti alat ini buruk. Karena air purifier dapat membuat hidup kita sehat dengan menangkal berbagai pengotor dan jenis penyakit lain. Bukan virus Covid-19 yang perlu kita khawatirkan saja. Masih banyak penyakit lain yang berterbangan di udara kita.
